The Midwest Woodworker’s Quality

The Midwest Woodworker will provide a high level of integrity and workmanship in my creations. I believe woodworking is an art in the true sense of old-world artisanship. My true inspiration comes from working a piece of wood into a piece of art.

The details I use to provide this quality include:

Solid wood construction is primarily used to provide durability.
Spending extra time on all joinery that pioneer craftsmen used. I am currently trying a new style of mortise and tenon joint that I hope to have a picture of on the web soon.

The backsides of many pieces today are not worth showing so the piece has to be against the wall. I pay more attention to this area by using better materials and finish so the piece can be moved away from the wall.

Finishing the piece, this is always a big decision. This depends on the use of the piece. When it will be used on a daily basis, a procedure like Norm Abrams uses works fine. For a finish more like a museum piece, I like the Sam Maloof finish by using a blend of boiled linseed oil, tung oil and varnish with a coat of wax to bring out the warmth of the wood.

And finally I would like to state my guarantee. I give you my word by signing the piece that I will guarantee my craftsmanship for as long as you own the piece, % 100.
